Cub Checkout Requirements

To become J3 Instructor, you must receive the recommendation of another J3 instructor, and you must pass an Instructor Pilot checkout. This will include flight proficiency and instructional proficiency of all items listed for the PIC checkout, held to much higher standards. Additionally, the IP applicant must demonstrate safe operation and good judgment to the check pilot.

On average, pilots without tailwheel experience will require six to twelve hours of instruction before being ready to take a checkout flight. Our club has no minimum requirements for a checkout (other than proficiency and knowledge). Please keep in mind that we are not a flight school or rental facility. Students and Pilots are expected to contribute to the upkeep of this antique aircraft and should take pride in the appearance of the aircraft.
